A Grateful Harvest: Honoring Veterans and Giving Thanks This Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a time to reflect and express gratitude for life’s many blessings. Many trace the origins of this celebration to the 1621 Harvest Feast between the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag, however it is also worth noting the second Thanksgiving in 1623, a celebration of gratitude for the end of a long drought in Plymouth, Massachusetts.

At Farm2Veteran, we are inspired by the historic connection Thanksgiving has to our military. Our Founding Father, George Washington, issued a proclamation for a day of public thanks-giving on the last Thursday of November in 1789, to commemorate the end of the Revolutionary War and the ratification of the United States Constitution. And, in 1863, President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed Thanksgiving a national holiday in an effort to bring unity to a nation torn by the Civil War.

At Farm2Veteran, we celebrate Thanksgiving with full hearts, deeply grateful for the many blessings to our organization.

First and foremost, we extend our deepest thanks to the brave service members of the United States Military and their steadfast families. We honor each and every veteran for their service, recognizing that the freedom to gather and celebrate with loved ones is made possible only through their sacrifices.

We also express our heartfelt gratitude to the generous donors who support Farm2Veteran. Your belief in our mission and your commitment to ending food insecurity for our nation’s heroes have helped us make a significant impact. Thanks to you, we’ve donated over 300,000 meals across 8 states in just four years.

We are grateful for the abundance our farm provides to feed veterans in need. Equally, we appreciate the ranchers and farmers who partner with us, helping to fuel our growth and expansion. It’s an honor to work with farms that prioritize sustainable practices, ensuring that together we not only protect the environment but also provide the highest quality meals for veterans in need.

We are thankful for those working to raise awareness about the number of veterans facing food insecurity. Awareness is a critical step in eradicating hunger and providing the support our service members deserve.

And finally, we are thankful for each of you—our supporters, partners, and friends—who believe in and stand with Farm2Veteran. Your continued support makes all the difference, and we are truly grateful.

As we gather around our tables this Thanksgiving, we wish you all a joyful holiday filled with appreciation and gratitude for the many blessings in your own lives.
