Veterans Day: Honoring Sacrifice and Tackling Food Insecurity

On this Veterans Day, we reflect not only on the sacrifices made by our military heroes but also on the ongoing struggles many veterans face. The celebration of United States Veterans began 105 years ago when President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed November 11th a day to commemorate the armistice of World War I. This date marks the moment in 1918 when both Allied nations and Germany laid down their weapons, ending what many called “the war to end all wars.”

Over the years, our nation has paused on November 11th to honor the heroism, patriotism, and sacrifices of our veterans. Landmark resolutions and acts by Congress have designated this day as an official United States holiday. After World War II, in 1954, the day transitioned from Armistice Day to Veterans Day, formally expanding its purpose to honor American veterans of all wars.

At Farm2Veteran, we hold immense reverence for the sacrifices made by our service members and their families. Our veterans deserve recognition and respect, and we applaud our nation for dedicating November 11th to this purpose.

However, we must also acknowledge the pressing issue of food insecurity among veterans. The latest data shows that one in five United States veterans experience food insecurity—an alarming statistic. Our veterans have earned more than just our admiration; they deserve to have their most basic needs met. That’s why at Farm2Veteran, we provide the highest quality whole foods available to veterans in need, as a way of thanking them for their service.

While we strive to honor our veterans every day at Farm2Veteran, on November 11th, we take an extra moment to reflect on the incredible men and women who have served our great nation. The entire Farm2Veteran team extends our heartfelt gratitude to each and every veteran. Thank you, veterans, for your service.
